Working Towards a Sustainable Future in Logistics

As industries face mounting pressure from regulators, customers, and stakeholders to reduce environmental impact, organizations including Shipco Transport are stepping up to the challenge.

According to Jakob Bluhme, Global CCO – Global Accounts, and Mette Karapetian, Vice President of Global Sustainability – ESG, Shipco has already taken essential steps to enhance its operations and continues to explore efficient ways to minimize the environmental impact of its services.

“Sustainability is something that really hit the radar the last couple of years, where we now have ambassadors that are responsible for sustainability initiatives,” Jakob Blume explains, emphasizing, “The innovations of sustainability is something we have invested a lot of time in.”

He also highlights the importance of offering eco-friendly solutions to enhance a brand’s reputation. “Customers are very interested in what is it that you can offer from a sustainability point of view,” Jakob says.

Mette Karapetian describes Shipco’s growing mindset and readiness to evolve its operations to achieve pro-ecological goals. “Sustainability has been a fantastic voyage so far within Shipco Transport, but it’s also a path that we have embarked on only in the recent years. So, we are learning every day,” she remarks.

A passionate advocate for sustainability, Mette believes the green transformation requires smooth collaboration between all parties involved in the operational processes, including local communities. “We are communicating with our customers, with stakeholders in general, with the communities around us. We also support our local communities. We have a very strong and growing culture,” she explains, adding that the efforts of Shipco’s sustainability innovation ambassadors are facilitated by the company’s readiness to embrace change.

“I’m very fortunate to say that Shipco Transport has very compassionate Greenovation ambassadors around the world who are actively taking steps in making a difference. And while some things are more regulatory in nature, we of course have to do the right thing.”

She continues, “It’s also wonderful to see that all our colleagues are so compassionately engaged in little steps on a daily basis to make a difference, which is something we can alldo, whether it be at home, whether it be at work, whether it’s looking outside, where we are, where we’re working, there is much we can do.”

Mette, as the Vice President of Global Sustainability – ESG, raises crucial questions. ”How do we waste less? How do we manage our resource use better? How do we become more efficient with what we do for a positive impact on Mother Earth? How do we improve our processes?”

Explaining the principles Shipco embraces, she describes how the organization’s commitment to continuous improvement and how natural efficiency aligns with its role as a neutral wholesaler. “And we do that by nature as a consolidator. We are all very, very efficient in many things that we do, because that is what the nature of being consolidator is all about. I think the culture within Shipco Transport is always wanting to do better and improving ourselves,”

She adds, ”Learning from our environment, learning from our colleagues, learning from our customers, and also still maintaining the integrity that we have as subject matter experts in showing and teaching. This is an area we all should be sharing for the benefit of everybody.”

Shipco recognizes our responsibility and we endeavor to integrate ESG principles throughout our company processes as well as adopting practices that benefit our employees, stakeholders, communities, and the planet. By incorporating sustainable practices into everyday decisions, we are passionate about driving a positive impact across the value chain.
