Logistics is continually being influenced by external factors such as pandemic surges, natural disasters, to geopolitical turmoil and economic crises. Yet, in today’s highly globalized world, the scale and impact of such events on supply chains have intensified significantly.
In an era where volatility is the norm, adaptability in logistics and transportation has become essential. Effective communication and transparency are equally critical, as fragmented collaboration among stakeholders can exacerbate disruptions.
Peter Andersen, Regional COO, Europe; Jakob Bluhme, Global CCO – Global Accounts; and Stig Krogh, Global COO – Ocean/Regional COO, Asia Pacific & ISC, discuss how proactive strategies help Shipco navigate global challenges and ensure seamless cargo movement, even in the face of adversity.
“With the disruption that that you see in the market today, whether it’s a war or whether it’s a strike, restriction in the country; one of the key things we have been good at is maintaining a dialogue with the clients, come up with alternative solutions,” Peter Andersen says.
“These are things are not just going to go away tomorrow or next month or next year. What is most important for us as an organization, is that we align with whatever [the] situation is that we are dealing with around the world,” Jakob Bluhme adds.
Peter Andersen continues: “We very quickly have to change the way of moving the cargo, we have to pivot and find a different way.”
“We saw through COVID a huge spike where our customers cannot get the space with the carriers,” Stig Krogh emphasizes. “And now, lately we saw the Red Sea. Same situation, basically a repeat of COVID where we got the space and forwarders came to us,” he points out.
“There’s going to be more of these disruptors,” Jakob Bluhme believes. “So, we need to make sure we are prepared for that. It’s not been without a headache or two, but [we have] certainly have done very well in adapting to the environment,” he states.
