Malaysia’s Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has emerged as a standout performer through its role as the central hub for the Gemini Cooperation network. According to Alphaliner, in the first half of 2025, PTP recorded a 15.4% year-over-year increase in throughput, making it the fastest-growing container port in the world’s top 30 container port ranking.
As reported by The Loadstar, Germany’s Port of Hamburg also posted a strong recovery, with volumes in the first half of 2025 rising 9.3% year-over-year. Growth was supported by increased transshipment traffic, larger vessel calls, and new shuttle connections to the Baltic and Far East. India’s Nhava Sheva recorded the second-highest growth with a 15.2% increase, supported by expanded capacity and rising trade volumes.
Shifting trade patterns and competitive pressures in the region saw declines registered at the ports of Hong Kong and Kaohsiung at -3.2% and -2.2% respectively.
In the U.S., West Coast ports outperformed their East Coast counterparts. Los Angeles/Long Beach posted a 7.5% increase, while New York/New Jersey grew by 4.9%. Analysts note that shippers are returning to West Coast ports as congestion eases, while ongoing disruptions from the Red Sea crisis continues to affect East Coast routes.
